When it comes to newborn babies, how you hold them is very important. What is important for you to realize is that a baby can pick up on the way you are feeling and how you relating to them. If you are a first time parent and are nervous around your baby, or if you aren’t comfortable holding your baby, your baby is going to sense that, and is probably going to arch their back and not want to be held by you. Be sure that when you are holding them you are supporting the entire body and you are helping them to know that they are safe in your arms. If they are able to relax in your arms, that means that they feel safe. You should be sure that you are always keeping your mind on your baby when you are holding him or her, to make sure that you are concentrating on how you are holding her, until you are sure of yourself and it becomes very natural to you. Remember that a baby likes to feel close to you, and if they are held close to you they are going to feel much more secure than if you hold them away from your body.
